The International Meeting « Updating the WHO-IWGE Guidelines » will be held in Besançon (Saint Jacques Hospital) and at the Saline Royale d’Arc-et-Senans, France, from Sept 28 to Sept 30, 2007. The purpose of this meeting, organised on behalf of the WHO-Informal Working Group on Echinococcosis (Philip S. Graig, coordinator), by a scientific committee composed of Peter Kern (Ulm, Germany), Enrico Brunetti (Pavia, Italy), Solange Bresson-Hadni, Georges A. Mantion and Dominique A. Vuitton (Besançon, France), is to update the Guidelines for the treatment of cystic and alveolar echinococcosis which were published in 1996 in the WHO Bulletin. Nearly 60 experts from 21 countries have participated in the preparation of this Meeting by providing updated reviews on all topics dealing with the treatment of echinococcosis (techniques, indication, follow-up…) and will attend the Meeting. The updated guidelines will be published in international journals and endorsed by major medical societies worldwide.
