What about the fox tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis
and the human disease
alveolar echinococcosis
caused by infection with this parasite?

On the following pages, an international expert group offers information
for health professionals and public about:

  • frequency and regional distribution of the disease
  • diagnosis and treatment
  • activities of the echinococcosis registries
  • contact persons in the European countries
  • recommended literature

The closest relative of the fox tapeworm is
the dog tapeworm - E. granulosus.
It occurs worldwide, mostly in warm climates,
i.e.
the mediterranean countries.
A briefing on this parasite is in preparation and
will soon be available on these pages.
